Building-integrated agriculture: Are we shifting environmental impacts? An environmental assessment and structural improvement of urban greenhouses

چکیده

Urban and building systems are awash with materials. The incorporation of green infrastructure such as integrated rooftop greenhouses (iRTGs) has the potential to contribute buildings’ cities’ circularity. However, its greater sophistication than conventional agriculture (CA) could lead a shift in environmental impacts. One key elements for greenhouse building-integrated (BIA) CA achieve high levels performance is their structural design, which largely impacts economic life-cycle costs (by up 63%). In this context, study assessed iRTGs material energy flows burdens at level (m-2y-1) within life cycle assessment (LCA), based on case Barcelona. A following European standards allowed identification design factors minimize RTGs’ structure improvement scenarios. revealed that steel business-as-usual (BAU) scenario contributed from 31.5 67.3% impact categories analyzed, followed by polycarbonate covering (from 21.8 45.9%). responsible these were ground height, ventilation integration urban location. scenarios compensated additional inputs 35.9% decreased might occur BIA context 24.1% compared BAU scenario. also environments do not imply shifting per se, structures can benefit advantageous characteristics or be optimized structures.

Environmental impacts assessment of construction and utilization phases of tourism projects in Karun Dam IV, Iran

There is a strong mutuality between tourism and environment via the creation of feedback mechanisms, since tourism often places adverse effects upon the quality and quantity of natural and cultural resources of the destination, leading to its qualitative and quantitative degradation. Within theEnvironmental Impacts Assessment (EIA) studies, various methods have been proposed to assess and analy...

AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL bIOTECHNOLOGY

Survival of microorganisms in the Antarctic and Arctic conditions of life requires of the relevant genera and species special adaptability and resistance against stressors such as lack of substrate, UV-radiation, low temperatures for a long time and short-term intense heat during the Antarctic and Arctic summer. Therefore genetic adaptation of Antarctic and Arctic organisms to stress factors wo...

Integrated Environmental and Economic Performance Assessment

Our research group seeks to understand how corporations can effect long-term commitments to economic prosperity and sustainability; and in particular, how such corporate commitments cascade through the organization and are implemented from the boardroom to the shop floor of the manufacturing facility. Our long-term goal is to examine the corporation from a sustainability perspective, where we w...

Integrated environmental performance assessment of chemical processes

A method for environmental performance assessment is presented in this paper. The proposed method considers the procedure for environmental performance comparison of design alternatives as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. Integrated assessment model based on analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is presented for solving MCDM problem. An integrated environmental index (IEI) for chemic...
